After calculating a rough figure of what the essential values looked like, I tried some ideas.
One of the nearest-to-working prototypes was a ratchet mechanism creating gradual rotational movements.

Not knowing how to incorporate the record player into this system, this version gradually led me on to thinking on the lines of trying a gravity-powered pendulum mechanisms (something similar to what happens inside a grandfather's clock).
I found my inspiration from a YouTube video on a kinetic sculpture that used the pendulum-driven mechanism to power a rotating wheel. I recreated the sculpture by sketching it out on paper first and then eventually laser cutting a few parts on a 5-inch and 8-inch thick MDF.
