INERTIAL BUGS

A game on Inertia

Picture
CONCEPT

I remember the example of a bus stopping suddenly whenever I came across the word "Inertia". I wanted to think of something else and I started brainstorming.

I figured that I could tinker with:
  • DIFFERENT MASSES/WEIGHTS
  • THE FORCE BEING APPLIED

DESIGN ITERATIONS

I took inspiration from a toy company's video on YouTube and thought of recreating the set-up.
I kept the set-up simple and considered sticking to the basic concept.

I was imagining a gaming "Arcade" station with rotating consoles.

The main idea behind this prototype was to move the "consoles" with just the right amount of torque so as to shift the blue disc from the top-most plank to the ground.

My various prototypes consisted of three shafts, three to four gears to offer change in direction of rotation and discs of various masses.

I finally decided on a theme and a game play, however, unfortunately I lost my physical model.

In an attempt to recreate my lost model, I made a digital setup instead.
GAME PLAY!

Theme: The set-up resembles a zoomed-in view of a bush with leaves in a garden. There are two bugs in this bush and each bug has its own home (which is a hole at the bottom).

Number of Players: Single Player

How to Play: The aim of the game is to shake the "stem" just with the right torque in order to shift the bugs from one leaf to the other and finally help the bugs reach their burrow. The user rotates the gear-shaped-console in order to rotate the shaft.
The bugs are different in thicknesses - so some offer resistance to the stem's movement while some drop the bug with the slightest turn.

Here's a full view of the game's entire set-up.
